Silk and Dust occupies a quiet space where photographs feel less like statements than fragments of an unspoken narrative. Created through an intimate relationship between photographer and subject, the images move beyond documentation into emotional ambiguity. Meaning remains open, unfolding between image and viewer, with each photograph suspended between worlds rather than offering clear conclusions.

The work contrasts the polished interiors of luxury hotels with the fragile realities of homes hidden within the city's shantytowns. These worlds exist only streets apart yet feel socially and psychologically distant. Reflections, shadows, and fragmented surfaces become a visual language through which wealth appears fragile, while tenderness and resilience emerge unexpectedly within hardship. Luxury and poverty coexist without explanation, revealing the instability of both.

What gives Silk and Dust its quiet power is its refusal to provide certainty. The photographs invite multiple interpretations, allowing each viewer to complete their meaning. Rather than documenting a place, the project explores how desire, labour, class, and perception intersect, exposing a world where beauty and hardship exist side by side.
