Mum's Album
Book | Published 2023

This book returns to a time when photography was simple and honest, made by mothers, uncles, neighbours, and friends who never studied the craft. All the photographs come from my family album, taken in Kurdistan from the 1950s to the 1990s, over forty years.

These images carry balance, light, and truth from a life with fewer distractions and a slower way of seeing.

Mum’s Album is both a family archive and a photo archive study. It explores how personal images hold memory and meaning, and how the untrained eye once created a natural clarity that is rare today. We now live in a world crowded with images and restless looking. The book asks why the untrained eye once saw with ease, while the trained eye often hesitates.

It reflects on how images are born when life moves slower, when we photograph to remember, and when vision grows from a clear and uncluttered way of living.
